Hundreds of lay people welcome Easter in the church “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” in the seaside town, where the Burgas Orthodox clergy perform the Easter service.
The liturgy, which Flagman.bg broadcasts LIVE, began at 11:45 p.m.
The square in front of the church was filled with Christian believers who came to receive the Holy Fire and take a piece of it home. Traditionally, the candle lit in the church is taken to burn out in the home so that the new light can enter it.
The atmosphere in the square was festive, but also calm.
Dozens of police officers monitor order around the temple. Two huge video walls broadcast the service live so that everyone present can witness the liturgy.
Easter is the greatest holiday, called the Feast of All Feasts, and the resurrection of Christ is the greatest event in the history of mankind. Christ rose on the third day after being crucified and buried. The empty tomb was discovered by the myrrh-bearing women who visited the tomb, and Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and the apostles.
