Weather SwitzerlandThere is another load of fresh snow this weekend
After a dry winter, there is a lot of snow in the mountains in April. Spring is already making its appearance on Monday.
That’s what it’s about
-
Winter is making a comeback this weekend.
-
In the mountains there is locally up to one meter of fresh snow.
-
There is a lot of rain in the lowlands.
If you can, it’s better to stay at home this weekend: there will already be widespread precipitation in Switzerland on Saturday morning. In the lowlands in the form of rain, in the mountains there is fresh snow. The snow line is between 800 and 1300 meters on Saturday. It is likely to fall even further on Sunday.
In central and eastern Switzerland, up to 75 centimeters of fresh snow will fall in the mountains by Monday morning. Up to one meter of fresh snow is even possible at higher altitudes. This means that there should be some fresh snow in places like Andermatt, Davos or Arosa.
Particular caution is required on the roads: There is a risk of slippery snow here – also, for example, on the A2 in front of the Gotthard north portal, as a look at the webcam shows.
Spring is only in Ticino
It will remain wet and cool throughout Switzerland on Sunday. There is particularly heavy precipitation along the foothills of the Alps and on the northern slopes of the Alps. Significantly less precipitation is expected in western Switzerland and Valais. If you don’t feel like the wet and cool weather this weekend, you should consider a trip to Ticino. It’s 16 degrees on Saturday and even 19 degrees on Sunday. There are also longer sunny periods.
Spring will be back on Monday. There will still be a few local showers in the morning, after which it will often be sunny. The temperatures rise slightly. In the course of the week it will remain dry with sunny intervals, temperatures will be around 15 degrees in the north.
April far too cool
The first 13 days of April were exceptionally cool in the north, as MeteoNews writes. The reason for this were low pressure troughs and high altitude lows. In many places in the north it was between almost 1.5 degrees and locally over two degrees cooler than the long-term average.
In the south, on the other hand, it was only a few tenths of a degree cooler than normal. Seen across Switzerland as a whole, the temperature deficit is almost two degrees.
