Fathi al-Shibli, head of the Voice of the People Party and the official spokesman for the Libyan Party Gathering, said that describing the Internal Security Agency as a “militia” is a blatant interference in the Libyan national affairs and a blatant violation of the state’s sovereignty and laws.
This came in a statement to “Eye Libya”, commenting on the statements issued by the US State Department that the Internal Security Service in Libya is led by militias, against the background of the agency’s arrest of an American citizen who was caught running a network working to Christianize Libyans and expel them from their religion.
Al-Shibli affirmed that this matter is completely and completely unacceptable, explaining that what the Internal Security Agency has done is at the heart of its work and one of its legal duties in preserving the security of the Libyan state and its religious beliefs.
He added, “Therefore, we strongly encourage the internal security men and ask them to continue with full force to protect their state, their people, and their religion.”
