The official noted that it is necessary to change the methods of agriculture, industrial production and waste disposal
Today, April 15, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Beksultan Ibraimov, together with UNICEF representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Christine Jaulmes, met with UNICEF volunteers. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
In his speech, the official noted that we hear about ecology every day: about the need to preserve nature, protect it, and so on. Of course, we also hear about climate change. It is changing, in general, at a pace that terrifies some experts.
“The melting of glaciers and natural disasters are the strongest evidence of climate change that threatens life on Earth. The past two decades have seen significant reductions in sea ice around the world.
Global warming threatens all life on the planet. We need to change the way we farm, manufacture, dispose of waste, the way we travel, and the way we heat and cool our homes. It is very important to increase the volume of renewable energy sources and to phase out fossil fuels as soon as possible. It is necessary to use natural solutions and implement a circular economy.
For the next generation to become more climate resilient and environmentally friendly, we need to start investing in children now!” Beksultan Ibraimov said.
Christine Jaulmes informed that UNICEF is working to mitigate the consequences of the climate crisis in all countries of the world, and stressed that much remains to be done in order to finally slow down climate change.
“The UN Children’s Fund will be more involved in current and future programs on climate and environmental change to address these situations, to ensure that children are involved as active participants in the fight against climate change, and that their voices are heard and their needs are met” she remarked.
At the meeting, volunteers were interested in serious and important issues, how to implement their environmental projects, and made presentations about them.
The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Natural Resources answered the questions of the children, and the employees of the department made a presentation on the need to protect the environment, biodiversity, in particular the snow leopard. It is noted that it plays an important role in the ecological chain: the size of the population of other animals, the state of pastures and the health of entire ecosystems, including man himself, depend on his well-being.
The event ended with the planting of seedlings on the territory of school No. 98 in Bishkek (Altyn-Ordo district), which was held as part of the national campaign “Jashyl Muras”.
