The University of Visayas (UV) won against University of Cebu (UC) in the Mayor Titing Cabaron Inter-Collegiate Basketball tournament, taking the lead at 1-0 along with Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U). The UV Green Lancers started strong with a 19-12 lead in the first quarter, but UC’s Dannie Boy Lapiz led a comeback in the second quarter, cutting the lead to one. UC took the lead at the end of the third quarter, but UV’s Froilan Maglasang and Kenneth Brillo helped bring UV to a 64-59 lead with less than 30 seconds left. UC’s Kendall Limana made a four-point play with seven seconds remaining, bringing the score to 64-63, but UV held on to win. In the first game of the tournament, CIT-U also won against University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), with John Jabonete and Jeco Bancale scoring 29 points combined. On Sunday, CIT-U and UV will face off for the lead, while the University of San Jose-Recoletos will debut against USPF.
