For the next agricultural season 2023-2024, the application and operation of the Catastrophic Agricultural Insurance (SAC) will be more efficient, promised Nelly Paredes, Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagrie).
This ensures faster compensation to the producerswhose crops were affected by climatic phenomena.
“We are working from Midagrie so that the SAC does not have these problems (conditions established for compensation); the insurance expires in August, (these difficulties) will no longer happen again and so we can promptly attend to small producers,” he said.
The SAC allows compensation up to 800 soles for hectare farmers, whose crops have suffered the ravages of climatic events. The insurance covers natural phenomena, such as drought, hail and snow; excessive or untimely rains; pests; landslides and landslides, among others.
The SAC is covered 100% by the State and does not generate any cost to the producers.
In addition, the minister announced that in the case of the region tumbesto date 77 reports have been consolidated, which represent 5,600 hectares of crops affected by climatic events, and compensation to small producers would reach a total value of approximately 780,000 soles.
He specified that MIDAGRI maintains close coordination with the regional government of Tumbes through the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA) and the Agrarian Agencies, which carry out the process of collecting information on natural disasters in the field, in order to report to the insurance the evaluation of the damages to the crops.

As part of the emergency response in that region due to the intense rainfall, the MIDAGRI Through Agro Rural, it will distribute 140 tool kits, consisting of 2 wheelbarrows, 8 shovels, 8 picks, 5 mattocks, 5 machetes and 2 gallons.
10 six-inch pumps will also be provided to the DRA, which will be distributed in five districts, benefiting 813 people. The total investment amounts to 346,500 soles.
The minister participated this morning in Tumbes together with the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, in a working meeting with the regional governor, Segismundo Cruces Ordinola and other authorities, with the purpose of informing the measures adopted by the Executive in the care for emergency due to rains and floods.
Also present, Dante Yacila Augurto, president of the Tumbes minor hydraulic sector Users Board; Juan Farias Barreto, executive director of the Special Binational Project Puyango Tumbes (Pebpt), as well as directors of the offices of Agrorural, Senasa, Inia and Agroideas.
Visit to drain
Next, the delegation led by the head of the PCM and Minister Nelly Paredes, moved to two drains (Puerto Rico and Huaquillas) to supervise the work of the heavy machinery, which carries out clearing and cleaning tasks, under the responsibility of the Puyango Binational Project Tumbes, an organization attached to the Agriculture sector.
Likewise, the minister informed that the ministry, through PEBPT, has prepared 17 final technical sheets with budgetary requirements for the execution of clearing and cleaning of drains, canals, streams and rivers in the border region.
Later in the afternoon, Minister Paredes will lead the act of donation by the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), of 25 tons of unshelled capoteña rice (a variety released by INIA) in favor of the regional government, to benefit the population affected by climatic events.
The donation will help ensure food security for people in vulnerable situations and reduce poverty. (Andean)
