Charles became king on the day his mother Queen Elizabeth II died, September 8, 2022. And his coronation will take place on May 6, 2023, eight months after the official accession to the throne. From the first day of his reign, King Charles III assumed his royal duties. Despite the fact that he had been preparing for this work all his life, these first six months of his reign were not without embarrassment. Let’s talk about them in more detail.
Fiasco with handles
Already from the first week of his reign, the king had many meetings and events. The first time Charles entered into a confrontation with the inkwell right at the ceremony of proclaiming him king and suffered a crushing fiasco. An inkwell and a case with pens were always at hand for the king, preventing him from putting a fateful signature. The video clearly shows how the king, gesticulating, is angry because no one is in a hurry to help him remove the ill-fated case. And only when the secretary removed it, the monarch was able to put his signature.
But the tests with pens did not end there. A few days later, Charles is visiting Northern Ireland on his first royal tour as monarch.
He was with his wife Camilla. When the king again needed to sign something, he first confused the number: Charles wrote on September 12, although the ceremony took place on the 13th. When he was told that today is the 13th, he said, “Oh God, I wrote down the wrong date.” And at the moment when the king tried to correct the mistake, ink flowed from his pen. The king was furious and said: “Oh God, I hate this,” handing over the damaged pen to Camilla, which, I must say, held on with dignity.
The subjects reacted to these funny situations of King Charles with pens, and during his visit to Cardiff, one of the fans presented the monarch with a pen with the words: “Just in case.” The king took the gift and laughed, and the surrounding crowd began to applaud and laugh at the gift. It is worth noting that, according to royal rules, members of the royal family are not allowed to accept gifts from people like this at a public event, as this can be dangerous. But the king demonstrates that he is with the people.
Charles was pelted with eggs
Several times since the king’s accession to the throne, he has faced the fact that he is not only supported, but also criticized. Sometimes this criticism looks unhealthy. During the visit of Charles III and Queen Camilla to Yorkshire, when the royal couple greeted people, raw eggs suddenly began to fly at the monarch. By some miracle, none of them hit the king. Moreover, he did not even blink an eye and did not show that something was happening.
The man who carried out this “attack” was quickly arrested by the police, and he continued to chant for a long time: “This country is built on the blood of slaves.”
And literally a month later the situation repeated itself – it happened during the king’s visit to Luton. The incident took place in St George’s Square while King Charles was speaking to the public. The king’s bodyguards, seeing that the eggs were being thrown at the monarch, again quickly intervened to get Charles away from the scene of the riot, and His Majesty did not even seem to notice that the egg was thrown at him again. The police reacted again instantly and stated that the 20-year-old suspect had been detained and questioned.
King’s Ripped Socks
Only the lazy did not talk about how the monarch took off his shoes in the mosque and the whole world saw his holey socks. A comical situation happened to Charles in February 2023, when he and his wife Camilla visited the historic mosque on Brick Lane.
Entering the mosque, Charles III, according to tradition, took off his shoes, and it turned out that the toe on his right leg was slightly torn, or rather, parted along the seam. The king is famous for his frugality and wears coats and suits that are many, many years old, but it is unlikely that he would even save on new socks. It is not known whether someone told Charles about the hole in the sock, but even if they did, most likely the king would have reacted to the situation with his usual sense of humor.
Corona Burger King
Not embarrassing, but a very funny situation happened to the king during his visit to Germany. As the king greeted the people at the Brandenburg Gate, one of the fans in the crowd handed him a Burger King paper crown with the words: “This is for you, if you want.”
The king began to laugh, but did not take the gift, replying: “It’s all right.” The same cardboard crowns could be seen that day on the heads of other people who came to greet the king and queen in Berlin.
Already on May 6, the coronation of King Charles will take place – an event for which they are carefully preparing and which, we hope, will take place without embarrassment. Although, even if something funny happens to the monarch on the day of his coronation, this will definitely be remembered for many more years. As, for example, they remember how on the wedding day of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the bride’s tiara broke.
