Atiq Ahmad, a gangster-turned-politician, has filed an application to be permitted to attend the last rites of his son, Asad Ahmad, who was killed in an encounter with the UP STF in Jhansi. Asad was wanted in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case, in which Umesh Pal and two police security guards were shot dead. Atiq’s application will be placed before the appropriate court on Saturday, as the district court was closed for a holiday due to Ambedkar Jayanti. Atiq was previously granted permission to attend the last rites of his father, who had passed away while Atiq was in jail.
