Funeral of Galway crash victim Kirsty Bohan, a talented athlete and artist, takes place. Car belonged to a relative.

The funeral of Kirsty Bohan, a teenage girl who died in a road crash in Galway, was held on Wednesday. The car involved in the accident belonged to a relative of one of the passengers, whose condition remains critical. Kirsty was remembered as a talented GAA star and artist who loved life, and whose positivity and energy will be greatly missed. The school she attended paid tribute to her, stating that she was a “joyful, lively creative who loved life”, whilst her teammates remembered her as a “fantastic athlete” who always gave her best on the pitch. A minute’s silence was held in her memory before a local GAA match.

The Irish Times reports that the accident occurred at approximately 11.30 pm on Monday night on the Tuam Road. The car, which was carrying three passengers, collided with a wall and a pole, causing significant damage. Emergency services attended the scene, and the three occupants were taken to University Hospital Galway, where Kirsty later died. One of the other passengers remains in a critical condition, whilst the third passenger was discharged with minor injuries. The car belonged to a relative of one of the passengers, who was not at the scene of the accident.

The Irish Times also reports that the accident has led to renewed calls for increased road safety measures in Galway. The city’s mayor, Colette Connolly, stated that she was “devastated” to hear of the accident and called for action to be taken to improve road safety. Jim Cuddy, the chairman of the Irish Road Victims Association, also called for increased investment in road infrastructure and education programmes to improve driver behaviour.

In a statement to Galway Beo, Kirsty’s school paid tribute to her, stating that she was a “joyful, lively creative who loved life” and who had a positive impact on all those who knew her. The statement went on to say that Kirsty was a particularly talented artist and athlete, excelling in both the arts and in sport. She was a member of the Moycullen GAA club, and her teammates remembered her as a “fantastic athlete” who always gave her best on the pitch. A minute’s silence was held in her memory before a local GAA match.

The Galway Bay FM website reported that Kirsty’s funeral took place on Wednesday morning in Moycullen Church, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. The website states that the community in Moycullen was in mourning following the tragedy, and that support was being offered to those affected by the accident.

The tragic death of Kirsty Bohan has once again highlighted the need for increased road safety measures in Galway and throughout Ireland. It is hoped that lessons can be learned from this accident, and that action will be taken to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. In the meantime, the thoughts and prayers of the community are with Kirsty’s family and friends at this difficult time.
