Asuka entered WWE as an unstoppable force, but was then shut down by Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34. This was a controversial decision, but WWE had a reason for making that decision.
Charlotte Flair remains one of the biggest names in women’s wrestling. The Queen has seen many great moments in her career, but beating Asuka and breaking her undefeated streak at WrestleMania 34 was definitely something that took Flair to the next level.
during his Podcast Oh, didn’t you know, Road Dogg talked about ending Asuka’s undefeated streak. Not only was it time to do it, but WWE also knew that they wanted to do something special with Charlotte Flair.
“Either you’re going to put Asuka on top (at WrestleMania 34) and she keeps that thing going, or you’re going to put Charlotte (Flair) on top and holy mackerel, she broke the streak, and you know, the streak only lasts so far. long. You can’t be undefeated forever, you know what I mean? As much as everyone hated that The Undertaker’s streak was broken, I suppose he could have retired with his streak intact, but they were thinking ahead and who do we give this to? Same, same here.
If you’re going to beat Asuka, who are you going to give that carrot to? Because she’s undefeated and someone beats her, you better be looking to do something with Charlotte and of course we were always looking to do something with Charlotte, and that goes back and forth, and you’ll hear ideas for each other. finished, and the bottom line is that you look at the list and say, hey, on the other side of this, who is better as a champion? Who has more people to work with? There are a lot of things that people don’t think about (that) go into all of this, so there’s a lot to think about right up to the last minute. It’s a bit different when it comes to Mania. But there are also many meetings behind closed doors and people negotiate. People come in and have an idea and maybe win the day, and something changes. That happen.”
WWE has seen many impressive streaks, just like The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania. Road Dogg also admitted that WWE could have made Taker retire with that streak intact, but they were thinking about the future of the company.
It remains to be seen if WWE creates more streaks in the future. Bianca Belair is riding a 3-0 run at WrestleMania, and only time will tell if she continues that achievement after WrestleMania 40 rolls around.
