Thieves Steal $200,000 in Dimes in Philadelphia Cargo Robbery

The overturned containers of dimes

NOS News

Thieves stole $200,000 in dimes in a cargo robbery in Philadelphia. The perpetrators broke into the truck that was supposed to take the coins from the Mint in the city to the state of Florida.

The driver had collected his precious cargo from the Mint in the evening and gone home to sleep for his long journey south. When he arrived at his vehicle at 6 a.m. the next day, it turned out to be broken open.

It is not yet known whether the thieves knew that it was a cash transport worth $ 750,000 in dimes. According to agents, cargo thieves have been targeting trucks more often lately. “Lamb has been stolen, chicken, TVs, refrigerators, alcohol, you name it.”

Rolled away

It is clear, however, that the transfer of the heavy cargo was not without problems: officers found a fortune in coins from overturned containers and lost loot in the parking lot. Cleaners spent hours collecting all the 10-cent coins rolled away.

The police do not yet know how many people were involved in the robbery and how the coins were taken away. Because there are surveillance cameras at the parking lot, more will probably become clear about this soon.
