Pattaya — Pattaya police arrested a drunk driver behind the wheel despite being more than four times the legal limit. The unidentified driver was arrested on 11. April against 1 arrested at a checkpoint on Pattaya Second Road near the Dolphin Roundabout at night. A breath alcohol test revealed that the driver had a blood alcohol content of 0,225 %. The legal limit in Thailand is 0,05 %.
Pattaya police promise to crack down on drunk drivers during this year’s Songkran holiday. If convicted, the drunk drivers face a year in prison and/or a fine of up to 20.000 Baht on first offense. Anyone caught drunk driving a second time within two years of the first time faces two years in prison, with a fine of up to 100.000 baht and a driver’s license suspension.
