An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck the province of Surigao Del Sur in the Philippines on Friday, April 14, 2023. The quake occurred at a depth of 66 km, with its epicentre located 22 km southwest of the town of Madrid. Cabadbaran City in Agusan Del Norte experienced intensity IV, while Surigao City in Surigao Del Norte experienced intensity III. Talakag in Bukidnon and Abuyog and Mahaplag in Leyte experienced intensity I. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has warned that aftershocks and damage to structures are likely.
