Berlin – In the North American professional football league NFL, the record-breaking sale of the Washington Commanders is reportedly imminent.
Multiple outlets, including the AP news agency, reported that an investor group that includes basketball icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson is offering $6 billion for the franchise. There is no confirmation of this yet, according to the AP, the sum would be a record for the sale of a North American sports team.
The previous owner, Dan Snyder, bought the franchise in 1990. The team has had its current name since 2022, last season the Commanders finished ninth in the National Football Conference and missed the playoffs. The group of investors is reportedly being led by Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales – Harris would have stakes in teams in three of the four major US sports leagues if successful.
