Before the match against Remo, this Wednesday, Corinthians fans experienced scenes of horror around Mangueirão. Fiel was the target of attacks with explosive devices and Raphael Merenciano, director of Pavilhão Nove, one of the most traditional organized supporters of Corinthians, did not resist his injuries. The organization itself published a note of regret.
“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our partner Rafael Merenciano, our personal friend and director. Rafa, we thank you for everything you’ve done on behalf of Bloco e Torcida Pavilhão Nove, we wish the family condolences in this painful moment, which is forever in our hearts”, published Pavilhão Nove on its social networks.
According to Rafael’s profile on social networks, he was born in São Paulo, had a wife and children. His pages, although little open to the public, showed a life totally linked to Corinthians, with several references to the club.
In videos that circulate on social networks (check one compiled above), it is possible to observe a large number of fans during the confusion. The police intervened with rubber bullets to try to end the turmoil on Avenida Augusto Montenegro, on the outskirts of Mangueirão, the stage of the match.
The motive behind the attack is still unknown. It is worth mentioning that the organized supporters of Corinthians and Remo have a good relationship.
According to information published in the g1.globo, another Corinthian fan is also injured and was taken to the Metropolitan Hospital, in Ananindeua, a city in Pará. Police are working to identify those responsible for setting off the rockets.
