Truecaller introduces Live Caller ID for iPhone

O Truecalleran app that allows you to identify and block any call on iOS, announced today a new service update. The big news is the arrival of the Live Caller ID on iPhones, a resource that can help identify a possible suspicious connection or the number of an unknown person.

It is not so simple to use this function, it is worth mentioning. Let me explain: in addition to requiring iOS 16 (or higher) and a paid Truecaller subscription, you still need to add a Siri shortcut. When receiving a call, the user must activate the personal assistant and say “Search in Truecaller” so that the name of the caller is displayed.

In an interview with TechCruncha company executive said that this limitation is due to “the way the iPhone treats third-party caller ID apps”.

According to him, Apple only allows a limited set of numbers, selected by Truecaller’s spam algorithm, to be stored in a directory linked to the framework CallKit. For the rest, however, it is necessary to carry out a manual search, carried out through Siri.

Fortunately, newer iPhone users can enjoy the play back (Back Tap), feature that debuted in iOS 14, instead of always triggering Siri. This way, you can link the gesture to the “Search in Truecaller” shortcut in your accessibility settings so that the feature does its job.

Lastly, the app update also brings improvements in SMS spam detection and filtering.
