A large fire has been raging on an industrial estate in Westzaan (North Holland) since the beginning of Wednesday evening. About a hundred firefighters, aided by cranes twenty meters high, engaged in extinguishing work. A drone was also used to get an overview of the hot spots.
The fire is raging in a storage of a cocoa company on the Achterspring. Three buildings belonging to the same company caught fire. A lot of smoke is being released and people in the area have received an NL-Alert several times warning them to close windows and doors. As far as is known, no people were injured.
The Zaanstreek-Waterland Security Region believes that fighting the fire will take a long time. “Burning cocoa beans are difficult to extinguish.”
