E Ink Unveils Spectra 6, a Colorful and Energy-Efficient e-Paper for Digital Billboards

E Ink has presented a new version of so-called e-paper, which it named Spectra 6. According to the company, the colored e-paper should reproduce images almost as well as a traditional LCD screen.

The advantage of e-paper compared to LCD screens is that it takes significantly less energy to display things on e-paper. Furthermore, E Ink Spectra 6 must be able to display images of up to 200 dpi on the e-paper. Initially, Spectra 6 is intended to be used primarily in static digital billboards. It will probably take a while before we can see e-papers like Spectra 6 in e-book readers.

Sometime in the next year, E Ink plans to release digital billboards with Spectra 6, the company writes in a press release.
