A Cork woman fears for her safety after her son allegedly sent a text threatening to kill his father and the rest of the family, breaching a safety order in the process. The accused, who is believed to have mental health issues, has been remanded in custody for a week.

A Cork woman and her family fear for their safety after her son allegedly sent a text message saying he was going to kill his father and the rest of the family. The woman, aged around 60, testified at an in-camera hearing of Cork District Court that she was terrified of her son, who was accused of breaching a safety order. The accused is also alleged to have sent the threatening text, which was taken as a new offence. The defendant’s solicitor applied for bail, claiming that his client suffered from severe mental health issues and had only contacted his father to get money. He also claimed that the defendant’s mother was not in danger. The accused denied making the threat and refused to take medication, claiming that he needed peace in his life. The judge refused bail, remanding the accused in custody for a week.
