Allergic asthma affects millions of people around the world. And the numbers are constantly increasing, at the same time as industrialization develops. But a team of scientists (Inserm, CNRS, Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier University, Institut Pasteur, NEOVACS) are developing and testing a new vaccine that would be particularly effective.
So, soon a vaccine against allergic asthma? In their latest study, the teams showed that this vaccine allowed the production of antibodies capable of neutralizing human immune proteins, the cytokines IL-4 and IL-13. These proteins are the keys to triggering allergic asthma. You can also find the results in the review “Allergy“.
The team of researchers must now launch clinical trials, but the vaccine already looks very promising. Because it could also make it possible to fight against food allergies, which are more and more frequent, and thus desensitize those affected.
So, allergies to pollen, dust mites, gluten, peanuts… Soon ancient history? Here are the answers from Laurent Réber, research director of the team that developed this vaccine.
