The letter:
Theft of your data
Best xxx
Your data is involved in a data breach. We are very sorry that this happened. By informing you well, we try to limit the consequences of this to a minimum.
What happened
Our customer service employees have access to a digital archive of customer letters. They use this archive to answer questions from our customers.
An employee hired by us through another company has retrieved your data from this archive for no good reason and probably also viewed it. It is possible that your data has also been shared with other people.
We have reported the data breach and filed a report
The data breach has been reported to the Dutch Data Protection Authority. The theft has also been reported to the police. We help the police with the investigation.
What data is involved
The following information has been retrieved and may have been viewed: your name, e-mail address, telephone number, bank account number, date of birth, energy rates and energy consumption. Your bank account number and date of birth are only partially visible in this case.
You may be at risk
We want to warn you. Your data can be used to scam you. You can be called or contacted in another way, for example via WhatsApp or SMS. Someone can then pretend to be an employee of the bank. With the information they have about you, they can try to get their hands on your PIN and bank card.
Because data about energy rates and energy consumption have also been collected, someone can also pose as an employee of an energy supplier.
Measures we have taken
Of course we don’t want this to happen again. That is why we have adjusted access to the digital archive of letters. We also look at how we can improve the security of the archive and the process of hiring new employees.
Our advice to avoid scams
We don’t want you to be a victim of a scam. If someone contacts you and you don’t trust them, make sure you:
The connection breaks.
Call the bank or company that the person who called you claims to be from. Check whether it is correct that you have been called by them.
No data sharing. Banks and other companies never ask for login details, pin code or to pick up your bank card at home.
Are you a victim?
We find that very annoying. Do not hesitate and always report to the police. Call 0900-8844 for this. With your report, the police may be able to track down and arrest the perpetrators.
Do you have any questions?
