Scarlett Johansson has been saying for a few years that she can’t understand social media. Now she deleted Instagram – after only three days. What scared her?
Scarlett Johansson’s self-protection from Instagram
Scarlett Johansson (38) is one of the few Hollywood stars who cannot be found on Instagram. The Marvel actress wants to protect herself and her lifetime. In a podcast interview on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her, she shares her reasons for turning down social media. “I’m too fragile a personality for that. I just can’t do it. My ego, my brain are too sensitive for that. I’m a delicate flower,” said Johansson.

Scarlett Johansson is critical of social media
The “Black Widow” actress made the decision against Instagram very consciously. She has spoken of her dislike for social media for many years. While she is aware that platforms like Twitter can lead to social movements, the negative sides outweigh this. Scarlett Johansson told Interview Magazine back in 2011 that she found it strange how some of her colleagues marketed themselves on social media.
She spoke to “LadBible” in February 2023 about her rejection of Instagram. “I didn’t grow up with it. My personality was already semi-formal when it came up, so I guess that’s why I just don’t have the capacity to process it.” She doubts whether she’s missing out on anything. But who knows, maybe the Hollywood beauty will find her way back to social media after all.
Scarlett Johansson became known in Hollywood as a young girl. As a 13-year-old, she shot to fame overnight in the Robert Redford classic The Horse Whisperer. The young actress proved her talent with character roles like Charlotte in the Sofia Coppola cult film “Lost in Translation”. As Natasha Romanoff in “Iron Man 2” she became one of the first women in Hollywood to be celebrated as a superheroine. With “Black Widow” she even has her own Marvel film to show for it. A stellar career, and all without the benefit of social media.
