Robert Lewandowski would enthuse a return of Lionel Messi to FC Barcelona. The Polish striker star also reveals how much a duel with Éder Militão in the Cup Clásico against Real Madrid made it difficult for him: “I couldn’t walk.”
“Hope we play together next season”
Will FC Barcelona’s attack line no longer only be equipped with a veteran star and former world footballer in the coming season? In the Catalan capital, there are high hopes that Lionel Messi will return two years after his departure and departure to Paris Saint-Germain to go on the hunt for goals and titles as an active professional with Barça – alongside Robert Lewandowski, among others.

The 34-year-old Pole even wishes to get to know the 35-year-old Argentinian as a teammate after a few duels. “Leo Messi always belongs to Barcelona. Should he return to Barcelona it would be incredible. His place is here in Barcelona. I don’t know what’s going on but I hope we can play together next season,” Lewandowski said Tuesday at a sports journalism event launching a book with proceeds going to charity.

Lewandowski: “I couldn’t walk”
“La Pulga” could have possibly helped the Blaugrana not to go down against Real Madrid (0:4) but to reach the final in last Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg. According to Lewandowski, he was only really fit for around half an hour in the prestige duel before Éder Militão jumped in the back in a duel in the middle of the field.
“After 30 or 35 minutes I got the kick. I wanted to play the whole game and help my fellow players. But after that kick it was difficult for me, especially in the second half,” said the Barça number 9.
“I was very keen to help my team but should have asked for a substitution after ten minutes in the second half because I couldn’t play anymore. Even yesterday morning (on the day of the match against Girona; ed.) I couldn’t walk after I woke up,” Lewandowski even reported about the consequences.
“Yesterday I tried to take part in the game. During the game it was okay because we worked with the physiotherapists. I could walk I’m not one to say no, I can’t play because I’m in pain. I always try to be ready, even if I’m not 100 percent,” said the veteran, who has made 36 appearances, 27 goals and seven assists this season.
