560 census agents were sent to the field for a general census of the population in Gabon, last Friday, April 7 by the Minister of Economy and Recovery Nicole Jeannine Lydie.
Phase N°1 of the general census that has been launched will provide information on the spatial distribution of the population, the movements of the population, have the exact number of nationals and foreigners who are in Gabon. To this end, 560 agents were deployed in the field to carry out this census. « It must allow collection in all localitiesIt iss information on the demographic, socio-economic and cultural characteristics of the populations as well as information on the characteristics of the dwellings and the living conditions of the households »explains the Minister of Economy and Recovery, Nicole Jeannine Lydie.
The operation, which was launched on Friday April 7, 2023, will take place in three main stages. Namely cartography which, according to the Minister of the Economy, occupies a decisive place in the process of implementing the census. Then, phase 2 which is the best known and which consists of enumerators traveling across the national territory to collect data and finally the phase of consistency checks and data dissemination.
The last population census was made in 2013, because According to the Gabonese constitution, a general population and housing census must be carried out every 10 years. The latest Gabonese population census showed Gabon’s population to be approximately 2.2 million.
