According to Jüri Ratas, chairman of the Central Party and deputy chairman of the Riigikogu, the government coalition led by the Reform Party wants to take office through big lies, which is why the Central Party does not support the new government.
“The Center Party does not support the new government of Kaja Kallas. The reason is in the content, which is built on lies,” Ratas wrote on social media. “Before the election, there was no debate about tax increases. The increase in sales and income tax hurts the purchasing power of all of us at the grocery store, market, gas station, and when using public transportation,” Ratas said.
“Free public transport, which people need especially today, when the cost of living has risen sharply, will be abolished. The tourism sector will be hit hard by the abolition of the favorable VAT rate. The Reform Party already wanted the same in 2016, but then together with Isamaa and SDE we were able to put a stop to it,” Ratas recalled. “Now this blow to the sector is even more severe.”
According to Ratas, it is completely wrong to reduce solidarity health care and increase the share of private medicine. “The promised extraordinary pension increases will not come, they will instead be replaced by a 2 percent VAT increase. The proportion of free higher education is decreasing,” added Ratas.
