Many updates only fix minor technical errors. From time to time, however, design changes are also published – this also applies to WhatsApp.
Probably very few people who own a smartphone do not have WhatsApp. The American messenger service is simply part of it when it comes to communicating with someone quickly and easily.
Since WhatsApp is a technical “product” that is constantly being further developed, updates are not uncommon. Most of the time it’s about minor bugs that are fixed, and rarely about changes in the user interface.
WhatsApp: New update only affects Android devices
WhatsApp is constantly offering new functions, which are first tested in a beta version and then released via a regular update. However, one of the currently planned changes affects the app’s design rather than its technology.
So far, the interface has been structured in such a way that the four categories “Communities”, “Chats”, “Status” and “Calls” are arranged at the top of the screen. With a new update, this bar should slide down.

WhatsApp is thus responding to a demand from users who find “that the current interface is outdated and not so user-friendly”. The update is also intended to ensure standardization: on iPhones, the bar has been at the bottom instead of at the top for a long time. So if you switch from Android to iOS or vice versa in the future, there is no longer any risk of getting used to it.

How „wabetainfo.com“ reported on April 4, 2023, however, a popular feature is omitted in favor of the design change. If you could previously swipe back and forth between the four categories, this function is no longer provided in the new update.
Regardless of this loss, the new update could “improve the overall user experience of the app” – especially on large smartphones where it’s difficult to reach the top of the screen when using one hand.
