The Ironies of the Energy Transition: Too Fast and Not Fast Enough

It’s not going fast enough, but at the same time it’s going too fast

They’re not completely crazy, our ruling caste. They do see that accelerations in the energy transition encounter resistance. So says Sigrid Kaag to the Financial Times that it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the electorate behind the Higher Goals. This is not because the haste borders on the absurd without the benefits being clearly understood by citizens, but that is because, she says, “because the Netherlands, ironically, is more conservative than you would think.” That is why, she also says, there simply has to be more and better preaching about Het Belang: “We need to create that level of support and entice people, and inspire them.” But who should we so inspired cheer for? Well, for civil servants and consultants, because the energy transition is their party. Criticism that you do not read at the NOS and is not allowed at Nu.nl, you can read behind the FD Paywall, some of which are screenshots below. To misapply the meaning of irony as Kaag did in her quote above: ironic, isn’t it?

Another irony: climate is a ticket from a corrupt lottery
