Farm inspections tightened in Oman to regulate pesticide use.

Muscat: Oman has tightened inspections on farms against the use of pesticides in the country. The use of pesticides, which are lethally toxic and harmful to public health, has been banned in Oman. A ban has been imposed not only on the use of such pesticides in the country but also on their importation. Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has announced a ban on such pesticides.

Exports of fruits and vegetables from Oman have suffered a setback following the discovery of high levels of pesticides. Two years ago, Oman banned the use of harmful pesticides on farms.

The ministry has assessed that the ban on pesticides has greatly helped in improving the quality of fruits and vegetables in Oman. It is pointed out that the demand for vegetables from Oman has increased with the tightening of inspections on farms in the country to detect the use of such pesticides. Oman authorities are tightening measures against the use of toxic pesticides in farms.

Suspicious vegetables and fruits are sent for scientific testing after inspection in the farms. The authorities have suggested that the workers of the farm should follow the related conditions completely. Officials warned that farm workers are responsible for these types of violations.
