The Ramón Carrillo Hospital in Bariloche received a first batch of 2100 vaccinations to start the application of the trivalent flu that covers three strains.
This vaccination campaign initially included health workers and now people with risk factors and those over 65 years of age.
«The trivalent applies from 3 to 64 years. For people aged 65 and over, special vaccines (Fluxvir) are applied that cause the body to form antibodies faster than usual,” explained Laura Parsons, the flu vaccination coordinator.
He clarified that those who have already been vaccinated years ago do not need to present a medical certificate. “If a person has already been vaccinated on another occasion, we vaccinate them, we do not have to ask them for certificates,” said Parsons.
In this first stage, pregnant and postpartum women and babies at 6 and 7 months should also be vaccinated – who should receive a booster the following year.
“Every other week we will be receiving more vaccines. The population needs to be covered so as not to end up in the Intermediate Care Unit or Intensive Care. In this way, antibodies are created and not only the person is protected but also their relatives. Otherwise, the viruses mutate and get stronger,” Parsons said.
The hours of the central vaccination center located in the hospital are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They are also vaccinated at the modular hospital at kilometer 8 of Pioneros Avenue and at health centers.
