Gray Weather to Stay as Rain Covers Southern and Eastern Norway, Meteorologist Warns of More Snow Forecast in Mountains

The sun that shone on Southern and Eastern Norway at Easter has on Tuesday taken its place behind a thick cloud cover, and according to meteorologist on duty Tone Christin Thaule at the Meteorological Institute, the gray weather is here to stay.

– It’s raining and gray now. The weather has turned, and unfortunately it persists, she says.

She says that it is the eastern region that will receive the most precipitation in the coming week, but that it may also drip in Western Norway – albeit in smaller quantities.

– A high pressure in the Barents Sea means that the low pressures in the south stay where they are. At the same time, a wind direction over Eastern Norway leads to some clouds and precipitation. It therefore does not look very good there to see the sun ahead. If you want sun, you’d probably rather travel north, she says.

Brilliant Easter weather – then it turns around

High pressure

Because in northern Norway, severe weather has been reported this week.

– Today there may be some showers in eastern Finnmark, but that is the only expected rainfall in the whole of northern Norway, says Thaule.

It is the high pressure in the Barents Sea that leads to the good weather in the north, she explains. The same high pressure will be able to bring a lot of nice weather in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal as well.

Mild

In Eastern Norway, temperatures will remain between 6 and 8 degrees during the day for the next few days, and according to the meteorologist, it will probably also stay above zero at night. The same applies to southern Norway, she says.

In Western Norway it will be even warmer – perhaps 10-11 degrees during the day tomorrow.

In Trondheim too, around 10 degrees is expected during the day, and good opportunities for sun, says Thaule.

Deviation

Storms caused several closed mountain passes in southern Norway on Monday and the night to Tuesday. Meteorologist Thaule says that the wind on Hardangervidda has now decreased, but she warns at the same time that there will probably be another wind increase tomorrow, and that there may be another round of snow forecast.

– From today until Sunday, areas in the eastern mountain regions will be able to receive locally a lot of precipitation, and this precipitation will come as snow. That may be worth noting, she says.

In conclusion, she adds that although clouds and rain have been reported in the south all this week, the forecasts for next may indicate a change.

– Next week is actually a little too far ahead, but what I can say is that there is hope for sunshine and better conditions, says Thaule.
