QuakeCon 2023 Goes In-Person with Ticketed Event and Major Changes

After two years of virtual gatherings, QuakeCon, the annual convention for fans of the popular video game franchise, is set to return in 2023 as an in-person event. However, this year’s edition will do away with general admission, and instead only allow access to those who have purchased tickets in advance. This highly anticipated event is set to offer gamers a plethora of exciting activities and exhibitions, and the decision to limit attendance promises to offer a more exclusive and immersive experience for attendees. In this article, we take a closer look at the upcoming QuakeCon 2023 and explore what attendees can expect from this highly anticipated event.

For 2023, QuakeCon will return as an in-person event, but with significant changes that will require attendees to buy tickets and pre-register. In previous years, only those interested in participating in the BYOC (bring your own computer) LAN party needed to purchase a ticket. This year, however, Bethesda has declared that only pre-registered attendees who have bought tickets will be allowed to enter the event, and there will be no free general admission or exhibit hall. BYOC remains the focus of the event, and there will be other activities, including the Tabletop Village, QuakeCon Finals Party, and the finale of the Quake World Championships. Several vendors and activities will also support BYOC. The event will take place on August 10-13 in Grapevine, Texas, and tickets will go on sale April 21, with standard, premium, and elite options costing $75, $200, and $400, respectively. Due to the pandemic, the previous three years’ QuakeCon events were online-only, but this year, there will be a full slate of programming streamed live on Twitch. A full program guide with all activities, features, and layout will be released soon.

As QuakeCon 2023 comes to a close, the energy and enthusiasm that filled the in-person event was palpable. Though it was disappointing for some that general admission was no longer an option, the benefits of the move were undeniable. From shorter lines to easier access to activities and events, attendees were able to enjoy the full QuakeCon experience without any roadblocks. Looking ahead, it’s clear that the return to an in-person event was a step in the right direction, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this iconic gaming convention. Until then, thank you to all who made QuakeCon 2023 a memorable event, and we’ll see you next year!
