Cathal Mulvaney, a 44-year-old man, died tragically on Easter Sunday after trying to rescue his dog from Lough Ramor in Virginia, County Cavan. Reports suggest that he got into difficulty when his dog fell in the lake, and he attempted to save it. The dog also died. Mulvaney was taken from the water and rushed to Cavan General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The incident has caused significant shock among locals, and the Lakeside Hotel canceled its music out of respect. Mulvaney, originally from Main Street in Mullagh, had been living in the Rathardrum area of Virginia and was a former player for the local GAA club, Cuchulainns. The club expressed its “deepest condolences” and said he “will be deeply missed by his family and friends.” Local undertaker and Cavan Independent Councillor Shane P O’Reilly also offered his condolences to Mulvaney’s family. Gardaí are treating the Cavan man’s death as a tragic accident, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted at a later date.
