For Silvano Vos and Mika Godts, Ajax’s match against Fortuna Sittard was one to remember. The eighteen-year-old midfielder and the seventeen-year-old winger made their debut in the first team of the team from Amsterdam.
“I’ve been playing at Ajax for ten or eleven years. The fact that you can now make your debut in the stadium is great”, Vos responds AjaxTV. “I have few words for it. I dreamed of this. I didn’t expect to be allowed to come in, because I saw Kian Fitz-Jim warming up too. I thought he would come in. But the trainer called me, then I already had a gut feeling. He said: Good luck, play relaxed. It was certainly exciting, my calves were filling up, but a bit of tension is part of it.”
Vos, who came on after 72 minutes, was still close to a debut goal with a shot. “I really wanted to score, you saw that,” says the midfielder, who sums up his qualities. “I’m strong, technically good, fast, I can give a good pass, I can shoot and I have dueling power. Especially that.”
Godts also made an appearance in the final phase. The Belgian, who came over from KRC Genk in the winter, replaced Dusan Tadic. “This feels really good. When I came here, my only goal was to play here. I dreamed of this.” He received a striking message from John Heitinga. “The coach said: Ajax players score on their debut. Unfortunately that didn’t work out, but next time he will go in.” laughs the dribbler.
