Vamos A La Playa: A Tragi-Comic Road Movie of Three German Friends in Cuba

After the premiere at the Zurich Film Festival, now in our cinema in the Kulturbrauerei. In the tragi-comic road movie VAMOS A LA PLAYA, Bettina Blümner tells the story of three German friends in Cuba. In search of fun, self-determination, love and lust, they have to ask themselves the uncomfortable question – how to deal with their own privileges?

In the presence of director Bettina Blümner and leading actress Victoria Schulz.

The students Benjamin, Katharina and Judith travel to Cuba to find Katharina’s brother Wanja who has disappeared. But this project quickly becomes a minor matter – Katharina is looking for sexual adventures, for which she is willing to pay, Benjamin is looking for real love and Judith doesn’t really want a relationship at all. When the Cuban dance teacher Ignacio shows up and the threesome mixes up, everyone becomes more and more entangled in emotional contradictions, sexual desires and sincere feelings. In addition, the clichéd projections of Western tourists are increasingly colliding with the complex reality of economic inequality on the island. The road movie VAMOS A LA PLAYA accompanies three young Germans on their outer and inner journey, raises questions about youthful sensitivities, cultural misunderstandings, sex tourism and social injustices in a tragi-comic way and gives an insight into the relationship between naive tourism and Cuban reality of life.
