Alytus “Wolves” (17-8), who made a change in the coaching staff a few days ago, played the first match of “Betsafe-LKL” with Kęstučius Kemzūras in the lead.
The visitors managed to break Jonava’s “CBet” club (14-11) 85:74 (22:17, 18:22, 18:11, 27:24) after a tense fight.
Although the attack of Jonava’s team accelerated slowly and the difference was in double digits at the beginning of the match (5:15), the points of Edvin Šeškaus and Jeffery Garrett made it possible to get closer – 12:15. After the first quarter, Alytis had a 5-point advantage, later they increased it even more (30:20), but E. Šeškus, Glynn Watson and Dovis Bičkauskis reminded themselves, who again improved the position of “CBet” – 26:32.
Goran Huskicius with J. Garretto continued to melt the home team’s deficit (34:36), and finally the latter equalized the result – 36:36. Martin Laksa’s three-pointer led to the fact that before the long break, the Jonavis had a minimal deficit – 39:40.
After the break, both teams could not score points for more than 2 minutes, finally Rashard Kelly made a layup – 42:39. Ahmad Caver pushed the Wolves forward (47:41) and allowed them to break away more, so before the last quarter, the guests had a rather tangible lead – 58:50.
However, it turned out to be fragile – the intrigue rose again to the maximum level, because Dovis Bičkauskis, who took the penalty shot, cut the deficit of “CBet” to just one point – 67:68. A.Caver showed his leadership by collecting very important points (73:67), but G.Watson did not allow the guests to gain momentum – 69:73. Time passed, the fighting Alytus team came closer to victory (77:69) after a good section of the legionnaires, and finally E. Bucker finally killed the hosts – 81:71.
In the previous confrontations, two victories were recorded by CBet: with the results 80:62 and 99:94.
“Wolves” firmly established themselves in the third place in the tournament table and some distance from “7bet-Lietkabelis” of Panevėžys (15-9), while the people of Jonaviški remain firmly in sixth place.
