Today, Friday, April 7, 2023 – World Health Day – the World Health Organization celebrates the 75th anniversary of its establishment.
In 1948, the countries of the world came together and founded the World Health Organization to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable, so that everyone, everywhere can achieve the highest level of health and well-being, in accordance with A publication of the World Health Organization on its website.
The organization said that the celebration of its 75th anniversary provides an opportunity to look back at the successes achieved in the field of public health, which have improved the quality of life during the past seven decades. It is also an opportunity to spur action to address the health challenges we face today and those we will face tomorrow.
Some messages of World Health Day 2023
- Health for All envisions all people to be healthy in order to lead fulfilling lives in a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
- The right to health is a basic human right. Everyone must have access to the health services they need when and where they need them.
- 30% of the world’s population is unable to access basic health services.
- Nearly two billion people face exorbitant or impoverished health spending, with large disparities affecting those in the most vulnerable environments.
- Universal health coverage provides financial protection and access to quality essential services, lifts people out of poverty, enhances the well-being of families and communities, protects against public health crises, and moves us towards #HealthForAll.
- For health for all to become a reality, we need: individuals and communities with access to quality health services so that they can take care of their own and their families’ health; skilled health workers who provide quality, people-centered care; and policymakers committed to investing in universal health coverage.
- The data show that health systems driven by a primary health care approach are the most effective and cost-effective way to bring services that deliver health and well-being closer to people.
- COVID-19 has disrupted the path of all countries towards #HealthForAll.
- The COVID-19 pandemic and other health emergencies, interlocking humanitarian and climate crises, economic restrictions, and war have made the path of all countries towards #HealthForAll even more urgent. It is time for leaders to take action to fulfill their commitments to universal health coverage and for civil society to hold leaders accountable.
- Progress must be accelerated if the health-related Sustainable Development Goals are to be met.
- Claim your right to get the health services you need.
- Strong health systems are needed to implement universal health coverage and emergency preparedness.
- Universal health coverage is a political and social choice. We need strong political leadership and public demand.
- Between 2023 and 2030 there will be a projected shortfall of 10 million health workers worldwide. There is a need to invest in education and job creation for the health sector.
