The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the Philippines reported a 158% increase in the number of passengers in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. This brought the total number of passengers to 10.8 million, which is only 6% lower than pre-pandemic figures in 2019. Domestic travel contributed to this growth, with over 6.1 million domestic passengers in the first quarter of 2023, an increase from 5.4 million in the same period of 2019. International borders reopening and the ease of travel restrictions contributed to the increase in passenger numbers, as travelers regained confidence to fly for leisure and business purposes. The MIAA predicts that passenger numbers will continue to rise in the coming months and years as the aviation industry recovers from the effects of the pandemic.
