A French government minister has become the first female minister to “come out” by discussing her homosexuality in an interview.
Asked by Forbes about a question about the criticisms she receives on social networks, Sarah El Haïry, the youngest minister of the government, spoke about her partner, reported “Le Parisien”, Saturday.
“I try not to read, because I know Twitter is not real life. But when my family or my partner are affected, yes, it pains me. But I made this choice of public action, ”she quickly mentioned.
This is the first time that a woman in the French government has revealed her homosexuality, according to the European newspaper.
Another minister had spoken of his sexual orientation in an interview, when he was the bearer of the controversial pension reform, something which for him is “neither a secret nor a subject”.
Mrs. El Haïry nevertheless clarified on Twitter that if she is indeed the first minister to make her “coming out” in France, she is not however the first female politician.
According to the Paris police headquarters, the number of complaints filed regarding homophobic and transphobic acts increased by 55% in 2022.
