Patrick Byrne, a convicted criminal, has been arrested in connection to the 2016 murder of Eddie Hutch, a brother of Gerry “The Monk” Hutch, one of the leaders of the Hutch gang. Byrne is alleged to have been one of two gunmen involved in the fatal shooting. Byrne was released from custody on Thursday afternoon, and the investigation into the crime is now said to be progressing. Sources have remarked that several additional arrests are likely in the coming weeks. Byrne is currently serving a combined sentence of 17-and-a-half years in prison for firearms offences and an armed raid on a bookmaker. He was arrested at Dublin’s Mountjoy Prison, where he had already been in custody.
