Cavite 4th District Representative Elpidio Barzaga Jr. has praised Speaker Martin Romualdez as “one of the most productive, diligent and industrious leaders the lower chamber has ever seen”. Following the House of Representatives’ garnering of a net satisfaction rating of +56% in a Social Weather Stations survey, Barzaga stated that Romualdez is a hardworking leader, whose example motivates others to be productive. The survey was conducted from 10 to 14 December 2022, and saw 63% of respondents express satisfaction with the House’s work, compared with a 7% dissatisfaction rate. While Barzaga noted the recognition of the House’s efforts, he emphasized that the lawmakers do not work for recognition but because it is their “sworn duty and mandate”.
Barzaga mentioned President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) goals and objectives as a vital factor in the House’s successes, stating that the body is close to completing the leader’s legislative priorities. Before beginning its summer recess on 23 March, the House approved 23 of 31 bills identified by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) as priority measures for the administration. Nineteen of these bills had been passed by 15 December 2022. Barzaga expressed confidence that the House would be able to pass the remaining measures of the LEDAC once sessions resumed in May, noting that Romualdez authorized committees to continue conducting hearings during recess.
