“His way of life is to make films, some people’s job is to review. They do their job, I do mine.”
MoDirector Priyadarshan said that he has always made films in the hope that he will not die. He said in an interview to Mathrubhumi that he has seen many successes and failures during these forty-two years, so it does not affect him. In his view, there is no such thing as a movie that everyone likes. Similarly, there is no movie that no one likes. Priyadarshan said that the movie will be successful if more audience likes it.
Once the movie comes out, there will be reviews. Criticism is an opinion and I have my own opinion when I watch a movie. When I was in college, when I was standing in line for the first show at the theater on the day of the release, those who had seen the matinee would look at the people waiting for tickets and shout, “Don’t you have anything else to do… better to go home…” – on hearing that, a few people would leave the line. At other times, the comment of the people watching the film is “Kash Motalakumto…”. Those waiting to buy tickets get excited when they hear that dialogue. All these are different expressions. Priyadarshan clarified.
It’s just that comments travel fast through social media these days. His way of life is to make films, some people’s job is to do reviews. They do their work and I do mine. A belief that has been held since its inception is that a film’s success or failure is driven by word of mouth publicity. The opinion of the audience is important. No matter how much fanfare and how it is presented, once the first show is over, the comments will start pouring in. A film that is liked by more people will become a success. He also pointed out that Jaya Jaya Jayahe and Romanchav were successful because more people liked them.
