“The Importance of IVUS and OCT Technology in Placing Stents for Heart Disease Treatment”

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA– The use of IntraVascular UltraSound (IVUS) and Optical Cohorence Tomography (OCT) technology is important for accuracy and precision in placing stents on blocked arteries that cause heart disease.

This was revealed by a specialist in heart and blood vessels, dr. Utojo Lubiantori Sp. JP.

“The use of IVUS and OCT devices is important in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures and stent placement. In addition to getting optimal results, it can also reduce the risk of complications,” he said when met by the media crew, Saturday (8/4/2023).

Stent itself is a tool used to open blockages in blood vessels that cause heart attacks.

This tool is made from Cobalt Chromium (CoCr) or platinum.

This material is considered better than stainless steel stents because it is thinner.

However, it is strong and the visibility is better and clearer on x-ray observations.
IVUS technology has been around since the 1990s.

This technology applies an ultrasound system (USG) or intravascular sound waves to see the inside of blood vessels.

The resulting imaging can detect the depth of the blood vessel walls, as well as how many sizes are needed to place a stent.

IVUS uses an Ultrasonography (USG) system or intravascular sound waves to see inside the blood vessels.

The resulting imaging can detect the depth of the blood vessel walls.

In addition, IVUS can also find out how much size is needed to place a stent.

While OCT is a technology that has existed since the 2000s.
