“Portuguese National Arrested for Stealing Sacrificial Boxes from Churches in Valais, Switzerland”

Between July and October 2022, several sacrificial boxes were stolen from churches in Upper and Central Valais.

On the evening of October 12, 2022, a third party reported to the canton police operations center that he was attempting to break into a vending machine at the Turtmann train station.

A cantonal police patrol was able to stop and check a suspect on site. Police found various burglary tools during the check.

The investigations showed that the suspect was responsible for 11 thefts of offerings from churches, one burglary in a construction depot and two attempts to break into vending machines.

The man committed the offenses in various towns in the Upper and Middle Valais regions. The amount of the crime property and the property damage amount to approximately CHF 11,400.00.

The perpetrator is a 50-year-old Portuguese national whose place of residence is unknown. This was reported to the public prosecutor’s office.
