The game has been one of the most popular Wordle type games, probably because it offers a slightly more difficult challenge than the original (in Quordle you juggle four word puzzles simultaneously instead of just one) .

I can’t think of a better home for this game. Lots of new features and fun to come, so stay tuned,” the statement read.

The game is now hosted on Merriam-Webster’s site instead of their own, and the new site sports a small Merriam-Webster logo on top. Quordle also features prominently on Merriam-Webster’s homepage.

Merriam-Webster is an American publishing house that focuses on reference books and dictionaries. It is owned by the Encyclopaedia Britannica, which acquired it in 1964.

Notably, it’s been almost exactly one year since The New York Times acquired Wordle, the game that started the six-letter word game craze. And in July 2022, a musical variant of Wordle called Heardle was acquired by Spotify.
