Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is preparing his players to take the struggle to win the Premier League title to Anfield, where they are looking to end a long run of winless games at Liverpool.
Arsenal has not won at Anfield in the league since its 2-0 victory in the 2012-2013 season, a match in which Arteta himself played with the London club. Since then they have suffered heavy defeats, including two 5-1 losses.
And before the last meeting at Anfield in November 2021, which Arsenal lost 4-0, Arteta used a strange method to try to prepare his players for the atmosphere in Liverpool by listening to the players for the song “You Will Never Walk Alone”, which is the anthem of the Liverpool fans, during training.
“You can’t train the players in the zoo and then go to the jungle on Sunday,” Arteta told reporters. “It’s impossible. You have to reveal yourself. You have to prepare the players. You have to tell them what they will face and realize that.”
Despite Liverpool’s inconsistent performance this season, which has kept them eighth in the league, the Merseyside club still enjoy an excellent home record. Leeds United were the only ones to beat him there so far in the league.
Arteta said his team is excited ahead of facing Liverpool on Sunday, as Arsenal look to maintain their eight-point lead over Manchester City in the title race.
