Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar has clarified his remarks on Adani and said that his party stands with the opposition in its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue. In a JPC, 15 people will be from the ruling party and only 5-6 people will be from the opposition, and according to Pawar, this would prevent the truth from emerging. He suggested a Supreme Court-monitored probe instead. Pawar also questioned the credibility of the Hindenburg report that exposed alleged tax evasion by Adani companies.
Pawar’s earlier remarks on Adani and questioning of the Hindenburg report had led to speculation about the future of the Congress-NCP alliance. The Shiv Sena also expressed displeasure over Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments about Hindutva figure Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. However, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has confirmed that all like-minded opposition parties, including the NCP, stand united in their demand for a JPC probe into the Adani issue. Pawar has also highlighted unemployment, price rises and farmers as important issues facing the opposition.
