Świdnik. A moving staging for Good Friday

On Good Friday, Christians around the world commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On this day, the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion is preceded by the Stations of the Cross. Parish of St. Kinga in Świdnik, preparing the staging, moved its faithful to the events from 2,000 years ago.

– Good Friday for Catholics has a unique character, because it is the day of the passion and death of Jesus, which brought each of us the possibility of salvation. Thanks to the commitment of the parishioners and residents of Świdnik, we try to recreate everything that is related to his way to Golgotha. This allows us to delve deeper into the mystery of the passage. We live in times when images speak to people, and our mystery offers such a chance, especially to the young generation, says Fr. Zbigniew Kiszowara, pastor of the parish of St. Kinga.

– We go through the Stations of the Cross, from the meeting in the Upper Room, to death and burial – says Piotr Jankowski, who plays the role of St. Peter. And he adds: – This is an in-depth version of the Way of the Cross. We feel every station, and through the acting of the actors we engage all our senses in the presented scenes.

Parishioners dressed in period costumes recreated the last moments of Jesus Christ. The spectacle began with the last supper, which was played in the church under construction. The faithful could also see the prayer in the Garden of Olives and the trial of Jesus. Participants of the event prayed and followed Christ to the chapel, where he was crucified and laid in the tomb.

30 amateur actors took part in the event. It was organized by the Association and Choir of Saint Kinga and the Municipal Cultural Center in Świdnik.
