PR Expert Commentates on Bulgaria’s Limbo State Ahead of Elections

“Obviously, we are going to elections. Obviously, the parties will have to take responsibility for Bulgaria being left in limbo for at least another 4 months. I hope this does not have extremely serious consequences. My prediction is that the unhappiest people in the world – the Bulgarians – are in state, in the form of a protest, to make a choice, a very expensive choice, which our children will then pay for”.
Diana Damyanova, the PR expert, commented this to the BNR. According to her, it is not realistic to create a “Magnitsky” cabinet or a paper coalition cabinet, but:

“Borisov is a magician. If he decides that he needs a cabinet, he will most likely be able to collect some votes. In the next elections, the trend of the democratic unification will be down, and the trend of “Revival” will be up. And in the following ones elections, we will have an unshakable part of a fascist organization in Bulgarian political life, if all this continues”.

According to Damyanova, Borisov would not support a possible PP-DB minority government.

She expressed her opinion about the election campaign:

“On the one hand, Borisov stood again at the head of GERB in an unquestionable way, he ran the campaign himself and reached the upper limit of his voters. Borisov has nowhere to climb, his ceiling has been met. The PP campaign was toothless and impersonal”.

In her words, this campaign has shown that money does not win elections, even in Bulgaria:

“PP could not defeat Borisov alone, who campaigned”.

“DB works with preferences – this shows how strong participation is for DB. It represents a significant part of the coalition’s vote. People supporting DB are trained to use the preferences,” commented the PR expert. And added:

“When you have bright personalities in your lists, these personalities usually manage to be put in front positions. That’s the good thing about democracy.”

She defined today’s statement by the four leaders from the PP-DB coalition as a symbolic act with which they wanted to show unity and that all rumors of division are not true.

“There have been too many rumours. Perhaps their PR team decided it would be good for them to appear together to deny these rumors and show a unified position.”
According to her, within the parliamentary groups themselves there are voices in every direction. Obviously, the voice of the PP and its firm position “Never with GERB and at any cost” prevails, Damyanova pointed out and added that she herself supports that the pre-election promise should be kept and not to cooperate with GERB.

A budget is made by the one who will implement it, Diana Damyanova was categorical and explained:

“I am an open opponent of Boyko Borisov. But in this case, he is right – you cannot make a budget, given that it will be implemented by an official government. The budget is the policy of the state. What a state will do depends on its budget and how it will behave. How can a parliament with a 7-day term or a 15-day term make a budget? Yes, it has been done in previous years, but it has not led to any good.”
