Perhutani Alam Wisata, a subsidiary of state-owned forestry company Perhutani, has announced that it has restored a flower garden at the Rancaupas Camping Ground in the Bandung district of West Java. The garden was damaged during a trail motorbike event last month, which saw dozens of motorbikes cross over the flower patch, damaging the pipeworts (Eriocaulon brownianum mart) growing there. The incident caused widespread condemnation and a police investigation. Perhutani said that it has since replanted the damaged area and participated in a restoration effort involving local residents, other institutions, and environmental communities. The company head, Lucy Mardijana, said that the reopening of the park was a necessity to prevent further impact on the local economy and the local residents’ livelihoods. She added that the park has been reopened, but the flower garden has been made off-limits to visitors.
