Stellantis unveiled Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show more details and specifications on the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, its first all-electric “pickup truck” that will go on sale in 2024.
The Ram 1500 REV debuted in a Super Bowl commercial last month. This EV pickup is part of Stellantis’ ambitious plan to market 75 BEVs worldwide, with a US-specific product offensive with 25 new BEVs by the end of the decade.
Promising autonomy
Buyers will be spoiled for choice once the 2025 Ram 1500 REV hits the market, with five trim levels including a new one called “Tungsten” sitting at the top of the lineup.
It is at the battery level that the RAM 1500 REV was expected. Buyers will have two battery options: a 168 kWh with a targeted range of up to 563 km and the optional upgrade to the 229 kWh battery with a range of 805 km.According to Ram, both battery options can add up to 177 km of range in about 10 minutes with 800-volt DC fast charging up to 350 kW.
This would exceed both the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T, which reach 515 km and 528 km respectively. However, that would fall short of the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, both of which should have a range of over 400 miles.
Up to 654 horsepower
The Ram 1500 REV will be built on the new STLA Frame chassis architecture designed specifically for full-size electric vehicles. Ram claims that the new electric pickup’s powertrain will be capable of producing 654 horsepower and 1138 Nm of torque that will allow the vehicle to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. Ram is also aiming for a towing capacity of 6,350 kg and a maximum payload capacity of 1,224 kg.
That being said, the Ram 1500 REV would be beaten by the top-end versions of the Silverado and Sierra EV. Both are expected to have a combined output of 764hp and 1,063Nm of torque, which will allow them to accelerate from 0-100mph in less than 4.5 seconds. There’s also the GMC Hummer EV, which offers up to 1014 HP and can hit 60 mph in about three seconds.
The Ram 1500 REV includes two 250-kilowatt Electric Drive Modules (EDMs) that combine a motor, transmission and inverter along with all-wheel-drive capability. There is an EDM on the front axle with an automatic wheel end disconnect. This is important to allow the front wheels to spin freely in certain conditions, maximizing efficiency. Another 250 kilowatt EDM sits on the available rear axle with an electronically locking rear differential.
The vehicle is also equipped with many other features that aim to utilize the battery charge. The Ram 1500 REV will offer two-way vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-network charging. As with other automakers, these features are marketed to buyers wanting to power tools and send power to their homes during a power outage or, as Ram puts it, “to organize a party or to supply a field or a construction site”. Just that !
